Trinity is proud to be a Reconciling Ministries Church Worship Service Sunday Worship We are now worshipping in one service! We welcome you to come and worship at 9:00am at our temporary location at 1401 W. New York Ave, DeLand, FL 32720. Our service blends modern and traditional elements. A Children's Moments time is included in the service. After the Children's Moments, the children are invited to attend Sunday School - JAM (Jesus and Me) for pre-K to 1st grade and Bodacious Believers for 2nd-6th graders. The children are brought back into the sanctuary so that they may participate in Communion. We observe Communion every Sunday, and the table is open to all who wish to participate. We also offer a fellowship hour after the service, as well as a contemporary Bible study class. Journey Groups Various disciple groups meet throughout the week in person or on Zoom or as a hybrid. We also have a Wednesday Women Group and Men's Bible Study Group that meet every Wednesday starting at 9:30am Music Makers starts rehearsals for their Fall 2026 program, Hotel Noel, on September 14th from 2:45-4:45pm. Invitation, spiritual growth and service to others happen in the Journey Group. It takes two wings for a church to soar to new heights! Trinity considers Journey Groups to be the key instrument in reaching our city for Christ. What constitutes a Journey Group? The study of Scripture. How does the Bible relate to my life? Meets weekly in a home. Outreach, serving others is part of the group’s activities. Groups are expected to birth new groups. It is a goal of a Journey Group that all members will learn how to disciple others. It is a goal that all Journey Group members will one-day facilitate their own group. Facilitators and Apprentices of Journey Groups are commissioned as “Lay Pastors.” Everyone at Trinity is expected to be in a Journey Group. Below is a listing of Journey Groups. Trinity was built 130 years ago, expanded over 40 years ago, and now we have plans to build a new facility on 10 acres located at 1338 West Plymouth Avenue. We have a strong and faithful tradition, where generations before us built this church to meet the needs of the community. Now we are continuing that tradition — building for future generations in our new location. We are disciples who create disciples through the transforming love of Jesus. Meet Our Staff seniorpastor@trinitydeland.org Pastor Will Clark is originally from Millbrook, AL. He, Colleen, his wife of 41 years, and two daughters moved to the Jacksonville in 1997. He retired from active duty in 2003 after serving 21 years as a Navy communicator (Senior Chief Petty Officer). During his military career, Senior Chief Clark completed a wide variety of Advanced schooling related to the Communications and Information Systems fields. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Management from the University of Phoenix. After retiring from the Navy in 2003, Senior Chief Clark became Pastor Will Clark as he answered the call to ministry, serving in the United Methodist Church. Pastor Clark completed his seminary education through Duke Divinity School. He also earned a Master of Science degree in Contextual Ministry from Northwind Seminary. Pastor Clark has served as Associate Pastor at Orange Park UMC, Senior Pastor at First UMC Williston, FL, Senior Pastor at Isle of Faith UMC, Jacksonville, FL, where he has served for 10 years, and is now serving as our pastor at Trinity United Methodist Church Deland, FL. Pastor Clark has said that he strives to preach with authenticity and a focus on understanding what the Bible teaches through context and for life application. He loves teaching Bible Studies and is a Tour Host with Educational Opportunities travel group. He has led multiple journeys to the Holy Land, Greece, and Italy, and looks forward to other travel opportunities. He has organized Upward Sports programs at the local church and has held various leadership roles at both the Annual Conference and District levels within the FLUMC, including 12 years as Chairperson of the Conference Fellowship of Associate Members and Licensed Local Pastors. Pastor Clark states that just as Jesus desires a relationship with us and modeled how relationships should look, he, along with all Christians, should seek Godly relationships with one another. Our History Trinity UMC was founded in 1895, 19 years after the city of DeLand was established. In 1898, the church moved into its first home on East Rich Avenue. The church name was changed in 1905 to Grace Methodist Church. During the early 1920’s the name reverted back to the original name. The building was sold in 1926 and the First Methodist Episcopal Church South moved into the building it occupies today. In 1968, the name was changed for the final time to Trinity United Methodist Church at the onset of the new United Methodist denomination. A brief history: In 2009, Trinity UMC purchased ten acres of land on the west side of Plymouth Avenue and held a service of blessing on the new property in December of that year. In 2016, Trinity began a $1.3 million capital campaign for the new building and, in September 2017, the membership voted at a special church conference to approve the footprint and financial plan for new church building. We moved to our temporary home on New York Ave, sharing space with First Christian Church of DeLand. We have met our $1.3 million goal and are now in the process of securing permits and finalizing the design of the building. With God’s help, we hope to break ground in 2026! The reasoning behind our decision to move and build a new facility: There are many reasons why Trinity has determined that its facility no longer meets the needs of our church. We have a large building located just off the downtown area of DeLand (1926) and First UMC DeLand is located four blocks away from our present location. We have no room to expand, since the Volusia County School Board occupies all of the remaining parcels in our block. Although ours is considered a beautiful, somewhat historic building, old churches require more expensive and extensive upgrades than new structures in order to keep up with today’s modern features and technologies. We have made the decision to be better stewards of our resouces and put our monies to better use, expanding programs, such as missions and outreach into the community and our world, Christian education of children, youth and young adults, Discipleship-making and witness programs. We have excellent and passionate lay leadership involvement at Trinity and are always looking for ways to better equip and train laity and we have a nice balance of age groups from infant to senior adult The good news is that we have already met our $1.300,00 goal and have approved the building footprint and financial plan. We are fortunate to be able to visit with them by taking trips to Cuba, as well as texting and staying in touch via social media. We keep them in our prayers, and they continue to pray for us. The History of Sister Church Relationships in Cuba Prior to the 1960’s, the Methodist Church in Cuba was part of the United Methodist Church and had a shared bishop with the Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church. However, due to political differences during that time between Cuba and the US this relationship changed and The Methodist Church in Cuba became an autonomous church separate from the United Methodist denomination. Recognizing the mutual bond we have in Christ and the rich history shared, the Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church and Methodist Church in Cuba met in the 1990’s to discuss a mutually beneficial ministry partnership. Though this process, a covenant ministry called the Cuba/Florida Covenant (later called Methodists United in Prayer) was born. This covenant was meant for the purposes of praying for one another, building interpersonal relationships, engaging in the interchange of people, and helping meet the needs of the Methodist Church in Cuba. This is Music Makers! Led by Conya Hartman, Director of Music, this program offers fun musicals with costumes and great scenery. It's not all music - your child will be able to participate in crafts, games, snacks, new friends, and growing in the faith! This program is for 2nd-5th graders. We typically perform a musical 2-3 times a year during a morning worship service. It is a great opportunity to learn music and drama skills while learning about God.
